San Antonio class schedule
SPRING 2010
Dance classes in San Antonio are held on Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00pm at Redlands Elementary School, 16650 Redland Road, San Antonio, 78247.
Wednesdays - sessions are 6 weeks long.
Beginning C&W, February 17 - March 31 (6 week course; no class March 17): learn the fundamentals plus five or six patterns of Texas' most important dance, the Two Step, as well as the basic steps for Triple Two Step, Waltz, Polka and Night Club Slow Dancing. Please note: NO class will be held during the week of Spring Break, March 15-19th.
Intermediate C&W, April 7 - May 13: (6 week course): building on the patterns we covered in the Beginning course, we move on to Lady's Lace Whip and Lariat spins, the Toss Out, the High Five Pattern and more. This is where the fun really begins! Pre-requisite: Beginning C&W.
Fridays - sessions are 4 weeks long.
Night Club Slow Dance, February 19 - March 12 (4 week course): we will devote this session exclusively to this lovely, romantic dance, suitable for love ballads and torch songs, whether sung by George Strait or Frank Sinatra. The footwork and patterns are fairly simple, but with proper technique and styling, this dance becomes a treat for the dancer and for the spectator.
Beginning East Coast Swing and Jitterbug, April 30 - May 21: swing dancing is a "must" for any social situation - casual parties, night clubs, weddings, reunions. We will learn the basic rhythm for both dances, East Coast Swing and Jitterbug, and how to tell them apart; then we start turning the lady and creating interesting patterns which work well to either dance.
Rates in San Antonio
Currently the classes being taught here are coordinated through the Adult Community Education programs associated with the Northeast ISD for San Antonio, which sets their own rates, dependent on the number of weeks per session -- and this will vary from class to class. The shortest session has been 4 weeks, the longest has been 8 weeks. NEISD prefers that their dance classes be offered to couples only, meaning the price they list is for 2 people (singles may contact Valerie directly by email for assistance in finding a partner, but nothing is guaranteed).
For specific session rates you must contact the Community Education office directly:
NEISD by phone 210-657-8866 or browse NEISD Community Education.Private lessons in San Antonio and New Braunfels cost $50/hour (may be split among 1-5 people) and can be arranged to fit our busy schedules, by contacting Valerie directly by phone or email.
Don't forget to check the New Braunfels and San Marcos pages for the list of 8 different classes being offered through the Comal ISD Community Education department. These classes are on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights.
